- A high-speed x-ray flash system is described. The design includes a demountable x-ray tube with replaceable tungsten anode and replaceable Hostaphan x-ray window. The tube will emit x-rays for pulse voltages from 30 kv to 250 kv. It is driven from a pulse transformer, into the primary of which are fed controlled condenser discharges from 1 to 8 joules. These primary pulses can be generated by a Strobokin ultra-rapid flasher unit. The distance from the x-ray source to the film is usually less than 200 mm. The pictures are recorded on film in a drum camera, and the frame height is fixed by lead masks. At the maximum flashing rate of 10,000 frames/sec, and with a film velocity of 100 m/sec, 150 frames 10 mm × 35 mm may be recorded in a sequence. Examples of high-speed flash x-ray records are presented.
