Abstract
Design of a high-speed Kerr cell framing camera is described. A single Kerr cell, pulsed once, is used in conjunction with a system of optical delays to provide six consecutive pictures at interframe times of 1.5 × 10-s sec and exposure times of 5 × 10-9 sec. The camera is f/10 at the 35mm film plane and the pictures have roughly 240 × 600 information lines content. Source image threshold energy is expected to be at an effective blackbody temperature of ∼0.5 ev for Tri-X film. It is expected that the camera will find extensive use in exploding-wire studies as well as high-energy-explosive hydrodynamics.
