Abstract
This letter presents a novel method of forming a difference signal which is proportional to the intensity subtraction of two time-adjacent television frames. The difference signal provides a measure of the redundancy between frames, and is usefull in the development of pattern recognition and television bandwidth reduction systems. Other non-optical methods of frame difference generation are described by Seyler.<sup>*</sup>
