Abstract
Cathode-ray tubes and oscillographs are ideal tools for the solution of many technical problems in the related arts of photography and optics. The methods described represent typical examples of the application of electronic-measurement techniques in such fields. Applications considered and illustrated include: Gloss measurement on photographic papers. Goniophotometry of light sources. Shutter, flashbulb, and synchronizer testing. Cathode-ray-tube light sources for facsimile and stroboscopic work. Scanning technique for television motion picture recording. The combination of optical and electronic magnification for the study of gear and sprocket imperfections. Automatic H and D curve plotting during film development. Cathode-ray-tube sound on film recording systems. The measurement of ripple in light sources. Color studies in natural color reproduction and chromatic aberration in lenses. Vibration studies of motion picture equipment. The techniques and cathode-ray oscillograph accessories described will find wide application in other fields as well.
