- Abstract
- The shortcomings of conventional electronic character generators in broadcast television are discussed, and the quality of their output is compared with that obtained from scanned artwork. The various distortions inherent in conventional character generators are explained. A new character generator is described that uses anti-aliasing techniques to allow characters to be faithfully reproduced from the typeface designer's artwork and displayed with a minimum of distortion. Other distortions caused by conventional keying techniques are explained, and new ways of overcoming them are proposed.
