- Abstract
- In optical printing with specular light traversing the film, scratches, cinch marks, and other blemishes on the film will appear as objectionable imperfections in the printed image. Liquid-gate and wet-printing methods can be used to reduce these defects to a degree, where the print will appear practically perfect. Wet printing, coating the film with a suitable liquid during its passage through the printing gate, has proven to be one very effective method. A new wet-printing method has been incorporated into a high-speed step-optical printer. The method achieves uniform liquid coating of the printed area of the master film, control of the rate of liquid application, control of film flatness at the point of application, application to both sides of the film, and effective drying prior to take-up. The system, its components, and operational features are described in detail.
