Developing End-to-End Standards for 3D TV to the Home

William Zou has more than 20 years experience in all aspects of digital video and audio systems engineering and standards development. His cross-industry experience includes TV engineering, CATV, TV broadcasting, content distribution over satellite, cable, IPTV, packaged media and Hollywood movie studios. Since the late 1980's he has been an active participant and contributor to industry-wide DTV standards development including Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), the US FCC Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service (ACATS), Blu-ray Disc Association, SMPTE, IEEE, Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and MPEG. He is the chair of the SMPTE Task Force on 3D to the Home. Zou is currently a director of corporate strategy & development at DTS, responsible for standards and business development. His corporate experience includes working for The Walt Disney Studios, Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), General Instrument/Motorola, and Harmonic. He is the author or co-author of more than 40 publications and conference papers in the areas of digital video compression, DTV broadcasting, HDTV implementation, content distribution over satellite, cable and IPTV. Zou is a Fellow of SMPTE and senior member of IEEE. He serves on the Board of Editors for the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal and is Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting.
