- Abstract
- The amount of time between shooting a scene and being able to view dailies to evaluate the results has decreased from a matter of days on film productions to almost instantaneous on video productions. With the introduction of file-based workflows, this time has again increased because of the need for post-processing of the raw image data. New developments in file-based workflows now allow for the creation of dailies on the set during production—rather than overnight at a post-production facility—providing rapid feedback for the cinematographer and director. Creating dailies becomes an integral part of a file-based workflow, including data management and backup, color correction, dailies production, editorial proxy generation, and color metadata creation.

Robert B. Currier is a software and systems specialist in color correction, visual effects, and production/post-production workflows. He is currently chief technology officer and partner at Gamma & Density Co., makers of the 3cP on-set color correction and data management system. He is also president of Synthetic Aperture, which he founded in 1996—creators of the Color Finesse color correction system. Previously, Currier was chief technology officer for Entertainment Drive, a pioneer in on-line video distribution company. Currier has also held a variety of other software development and technical management positions, and is the author of numerous articles on computer and video industry publications.Yuri Neymanbio
Yuri Neyman studied at the Camera Faculty of Moscow Film Institute (VGIK), graduating with honors in the art of cinematography and photographic engineering. After the Film Institute, he worked in the former Soviet Union as director of photography on about half dozen films. For more than a decade, Neyman has been using his scientific knowledge, developing patented “Thorough Control System” and the Cinematographers Color Correction Process (3cP) method of the media-to-media transfer, which incorporates the calibration standards of both cinematographer and post-production facilities, helping to ensure accurate transfers. His company Gamma & Density provides cinematographers with control charts extensively used by DPs around the world and his 3cP software has been used as an Image Manager tool for dailies and Digital Intermediates on more than 20 big and small budget Hollywood feature films. - Copyright
