- Abstract
- The video and audio compression/decompression techniques and the presence of the MPEG-2 standard are the enabling factors for the Recordable Digital Videodisc (RDVD) system. It is feasible to record and play back an RDVD of the same size as a Laser Vision (LV) disc and produce better or equal picture quality and longer or equal play time as an LV disc. This can be accomplished using an “accelerated” eight-to-fourteen modulation (EFM) as a channel code. Signal processing and channel coding, combined with a better understanding of the Write Once Read Many (WORM) medum can improve the reliability and recording density of the WORM digital storage.
