Toshinori Tsuboi was born in Aichi, Japan, on May 3, 1949. He received the B.E. and M.E. degrees from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1973 and 1975, respectively. In 1975, he joined the Electrical Communication Laboratory, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, Yokosuka, Japan, where he is a Staff Engineer. He has been engaged in research and development on voice coding systems, digital local switching systems, high-definition TV transmission systems and broadband communication networks. Mr. Tsuboi is a member of the Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers in Japan. Koichi Asatani was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on November 4, 1946. He received the B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E., and D.E. degrees from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1969, 1971, and 1974, respectively. In 1974, he joined the Electrical Communication Laboratory, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, Yokosuka, Japan, where he is a Senior Staff Engineer. He has been engaged in research and development on optical fiber transmission systems, high-speed digital data transmission systems, high-definition TV transmission systems, and broadband communication networks. Tetsuya Miki was born in Fukuoka, Japan, on January 31, 1943. He received the B.S. degree from Electro Communication University in 1965 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Tohoku University in 1967 and 1970, respectively. In 1970, he joined the Electrical Communication Laboratory, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, Japan, where he is Chief Transmission System Section, Trunk Transmission System Development Division. He has been engaged in research and development on high speed digital and broadband analog transmission systems over a coaxial cable and a fiber optic cable for trunk line and subscriber loops. Dr. Miki is a member of the Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers of Japan and IEEE. He received the Achievement Award from IECE of Japan for his work on the fundamental development of fiber optic transmission digital system, - Copyright
