- Abstract
- Perpendicular magnetic recording, in which the direction of magnetization is predominantly perpendicular to the plane of the tape or disk, is a relatively new technology that promises information densities significantly higher than those currently used. New recording media and heads are being developed and impressive results can be demonstrated. The head design and the proximity of the head to the recording surface remain, however, factors of critical importance to high-density information storage, just as in conventional magnetic recording.

Michael p. Sharrock Was Born in Columbus, MS. on January 25. 1945. He received the B.A degree in physics from the college fo st. Thomas. St. Paul, MN, in 1967 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the university for mossbauer spectroscopy of enzyme iron centers. From 1973 to 1977 he was a Research Fellow in teh Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia. From 1977 to 1979 he was an Assistant Professor in the Physics Department of Gustavus Adolphus College. St. Peter, MN. In 1979 he joined the Magnetic Audio/Video Products Laboratory of 3M Company, Where he is presently working in the area of magnetic recording materials.D. P. Stubbs3M Company St. Paul, MN 55144bio
Daniel P. Stubbs was born in Minneapolis MN in 1948. He received the A.B. in physice from Carleton College in 1970 the M.S. in 1971 and the Ph.D. in 1976 were received from Harvard University From 1976 to 1978 he was a Member of the Technical Staff in the Central Research Laboratory of Texas Instruments working on charge-coupled devices for imager applications. Since 1979 he has at the 3M Company in St. Paul where he is currently working on teh testing of perpendicular recording materials. Dr. Stubbs is a member of the IEEE Magnetics Society - Copyright
