Image Quality from a Non-Engineering Viewpoint

Harry Mathias has been a motion picture director of photography for 19 years with experience on 19 major feature films, 39 network television dramatic shows and comedies, an Academy Award nomination, many national commercials and 235 documentaries, in both film and video. He has also been a consultant and designed production equipment for Arriflex, Cinema Products, Photo Research, and is president of Mathias Designs Inc. He is the author of numerous articles for SMPTE, On Location, Video Systems, Millimeter, and an upcoming book on the subject of electronic cinematography for Wadsworth Publishing, He has taught classes in Cinematography, Video, Lighting, and New Production Technology for UCLA, San Francisco State University, AFI, and five years of national lecture tours speaking to the production industry. Mathias graduated from San Francisco State Universio with a B.A. degree in Radio, Television, Film and an M.A. degree in Creative Arts with a minor in Electronic Engineering. In addition to his cinematography activities, Mathias is currently Senior Consultant to Panavision Inc.
