Abstract: High definition television (HDTV) technology will eventually be exploited in advanced television (ATV) systems for delivery of entertainment to consumers. Discussions of so-called “HDTV” in the United States have actually been primarily concerned with ATV and the application of HDTV technology to the broadcasting industry. However, more immediate effects – and effects likely to be of more enduring importance to U.S. manufacturing – will be felt in the computer industry.
