- Abstract
- Video systems are used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. The applications of video technology in this setting include the introduction of broadcast quality video tape recorders in 1972, optimization of 525-line video systems which have proven superior to 1023-line systems in this application, pulsing of the x-ray tube and 30 Hz progressive readout of the plumbicon camera tube, and the introduction of digital image processing allowing for image loop displays and conversion of 525-line acquired images to 1023-line display. These applications, which have resulted in improved image quality and a reduction of x-ray exposure, as well as the potential for further applications of video broadcast technology, are discussed.
