- Abstract
- An experimental stereoscopic television system with HDTV facilities has been developed for basic studies of a future broadcasting services. A short program was experimentally produced for an investigation of the fashion of producing the stereoscopic pictures. Some results of psychological effects of stereoscopic vision appear that a higher definition television system with a larger size screen is necessary for the system. A comparison of the conventional two-dimensional and stereoscopic pictures shows a superior picture quality for the stereoscopic television.

Ichiro Yuyama was born in Tokyo. Japan, on June 13, 1946. He received a B.Eng. degree from University of Tokyo in 1970. In 1970 he joined Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). He has been engaged in research and development of HDTV since 1975. He was in charge of an EDTV project at NHK and worked as a member of the EDTV Development and Evaluation Committee of Broadcasting Technology Association (BTA). He is currently a senior research engineer of NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories and engaged in research and development of future television systems including stereoscopic television. Yuyama is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers of Japan and the Institute of Television Engineers of Japan.Sumio YanoScience and Technical Research Laboratories NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.) Sumio Yuno was born in Ehime, Japan, on May 10, 1954. He receiveda B.Eng. degreee from the University of Electro-Communications and joined Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) in 1977. Since August 1981 he has been engaged in research of television signal processing and subjective assessment of picture quality including visual perception for 3-D television. He is currently a research engineer of Visual Science Research Division of the Science and Technical Research Laboratories of NHK. Yuno is a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communicution Engineers of Japan and the Institute of Television Engineers of Japan. - Copyright
