Abstract: The Canadian Telecasting Practices Committee has recommended a standard telecine camera characteristic which is intended to provide television reproduction of color film essentially identical in luminance, hue, and saturation to the original material when the latter is viewed under specific projection and ambient conditions. Calculation of the camera color analysis primaries has been based upon reproduction using present-day phosphor characteristics, rather than the values specified by NTSC. Since the latter permit a greater gamut of color saturation, there has been a reluctance on the part of organizations concerned with television standards in the United States and in Europe to consider a change in primaries to accommodate what may be a temporary limitation in display tube characteristics.
