- Abstract
- Internet protocol (IP) distribution has brought many changes to the ways that content can be delivered to stations. However, by leveraging this technology to create a migration of IP capability deep into the station workflow, digital content management can then benefit the stations. Until now, content distribution to stations has been largely a blindfolded process, with few tools to enable stations to standardize or manage multiple content streams. But IP connectivity enabling interfaces to existing infrastructure and compatibility with emerging new technologies in play-to-air, ad insertion, archives, etc., means that the station can benefit directly from the method of delivery selected.

Joe Fabiano is chief technical officer, Pathfire, Inc. (formerly Video Networks, Inc.), Roswell, GA. A founding member of the Pathfire leadership team, Leonard (Joe) Fabiano has more than 19 years of experience in broadcasting and cable as well as electronic video systems expertise. He led the development of Pathfire's innovative, store and forward news distribution and management system, News Tracker, which has been used by NBC News Channel to distribute their network feed to affiliate stations. Following this success, the team developed Pathfire's next generation platform, Digital Media Gateway (DMG), which is used by ABC News One to deliver their network feed to stations. In addition to news, the DMG enables the digital distribution and management of multiple types of content including syndication, short form, and ads. Prior to his entrepreneurial success, Fabiano provided insight, direction, and industry expertise to Cox Communications, serving as corporate director of operations. Floyd Christofferson is senior vice-president, broadcast, for Pathfire, Inc. (formerly Video Networks Inc.), Roswell, GA. He has more than 23 years of experience in news services, television, and media management. Christofferson joined Pathfire from his position as president/CEO of Potomac Television/Communications Inc., a Washington-based television news service company. In addition to managing PTC's news operations, he was also responsible for overseeing the company's service relationship with CNN. During his early career, Christofferson spent more than 10 years as a news correspondent in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East prior to transitioning into business management. He was the founder of a successful offshore publishing venture in Budapest, Hungary, and responsible for the turnaround of Manhattan Center Studio's television and performance production infrastructure in New York. Christofferson studied political science and journalism at the University of Northern lowa. He is active in numerous organizations including the RTNDA and NATAS. - Copyright
