- Abstract
- Advances in post-production technology make it ever easier to manipulate captured images in new ways; to perform functions such as changing of frame rate and insertion of virtual objects. However, such processes could be improved or made significantly easier by capturing additional data at the camera. The MetaVision project, funded by the European Union's Information Society Technologies (IST) program, has been investigating how to capture and record such data and how to use it to assist the post-production workflow. Now, in its final year, the project has developed a camera system demonstrator capable of capturing additional data in the form of high-frame-rate images and images for depth estimation. Experiments are being conducted using this camera system, which will allow the concepts pioneered by the project to be tested. This paper discusses some of the innovative aspects of the camera system and presents some results.
