bio
Richard P. May is vice-president, film preservation, for Warner Bros. Technical Operations, Inc. He has worked actively in the Hollywood Section of SMPTE for the past five years, having served as Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. May started his motion picture career in Oklahoma City, first working in theaters, then with Universal's distribution office. He later worked for Buena Vista (Disney) and 20th Century Fox in their theatrical distribution departments. After joining MGM in 1984, he moved on to Turner Entertainment Co. after their purchase of the MGM library, and at that time took over the film preservation function of the MGM, pre-1950 Warner Bros. and RKO libraries. With the merger of Turner and Warner Bros. in 1996, he has continued in this field with the combined organizations. In addition to SMPTE, May is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Association of Moving Image Archivists.
