Kohji Mitani Mitani received BS and MS degrees in electronic engineering in 1985 and 1987, respectively, and a PhD degree in 1999, from Kyoto University. In 1987, he joined the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.) Science and Technical Research Laboratories. Since then, he has been working on solid-state image sensor camera. His research interests include very high data rate image pickup method, particularly a very high resolution and very high frame rate image acquisition system. He is a member of the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers of Japan, and SMPTE.
Masaru KanazawaNHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories

Masura Kanazawa Kanazawa received BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electronics from Hokkaido University in 1977, 1979, and 2004, respectively. From 1979, he has been working for NHK. He is currently an executive research engineer at NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories and is engaged in the development of extremely high-resolution imagery systems. He was awarded the best paper award of ITE Niwa-Takayanagi prize in 2004. Maezima prize in 2005 and the achievement award of ITE Niwa-Takayanagi prize in 2006. He is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers of Japan (EIC).the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers of Japan (ITE), and SID.
Kimio HamasakiNHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories

Kimio Hamasaki Hamasaki received an MS degree in acoustic design from the Kyushu Institute of Design in 1982, and he began a successful recording career NHK, where he has made numerous music recordings for broadcasting, CDs. and video releases. For his work, he received several awards including the Prix Italia Perugia Award and the CATs Audio Award. In addition to audio engineering, he was engaged in the development of multichannel audio recording techniques, as well as digital mixing systems. Since 2000, he has been a senior research engineer at the NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories, where he works on advanced multichannel audio systems for reproducing immersive presence, and high-resolution audio. He is a Fellow member of the Audio Engineering Society, and a member of the Acoustical Society of Japan, and the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers.
Yukihiro NishidaNHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories

Yukihiro Nishida Nishida is senior research engineer, human and information science at NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories. Since graduating from Keio University, Japan, with a master's degree in electrical engineering, he has worked for NHK and has been involved in research and development of video coding, quality measurement, digital broadcasting, HDTV, etc. He has participated in many standardization activities in the area of broadcasting technologies, and has served ITU-R as vice chairman of the Working Party dealing with digital television standards since 1999.
Kazuyoshi ShogenNHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories

Kazuyoshi Shogen Shogen joined NHK in 1979. He has been engaged in research on broadcasting satellite systems, especially on contoured beam antennas for Japanese direct broadcasting satellites in NHK's Science and Technical Research Laboratories, since 1982. From 1988 to 1989 he was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. In 1998 to 2003, he worked in NHK's Engineering Administration Department engaging in media planning and international affairs, working with groups such as the ABU (Oct. 1999), ITU-R (May 1995) and APT (Dec. 1998–2003). He has been Chair of the ABU Technical Committee since November 2006 and served as a vice chairman of the ITU-R SG6 WP6S (March 2002). He is an IEEE senior member. Shogen is now an executive research engineer in NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories.
Masayuki SugawaraUniversity of Electro-Communications in Tokyo

Masayuki Sugawara Sugawara received BS and MS degrees in electric communication engineering and a PhD degree in electronic engineering from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He joined NHK in 1983. Since 1987, he has been researching the solid-state image sensor and HDTV camera at NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories. He was an associate professor at the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo from 2000 until 2004. Currently, he is a senior research engineer at NHK STRL where he is engaged in the research of ultra-high-definition TV systems. Sugawara is a member of SIV1PTE, IEEE, IEICE, and ITE.
