- Abstract
- Picture quality of a hit-rate reduced transmission system is affected by the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the source signal, as the source noise increases the entropy of the signal. The influence of the source noise becomes remarkable when the bit rate is markedly reduced or the source signal contains a high noise level; therefore, the source SNR is one of the key factors in the design of digital TV systems. This article analyzes the camera noise, which is inevitably included in studio production signals, and discusses its influence on a bit-rate reduction system in HDTV environments.
