Abstract
This paper reports the findings of the Subgroup on Wrappers and Metadata of the EBU/SMPTE Task Force on Harmonization of Standards for the Exchange of Program Material as Bit Streams (TFHS) and the standardization projects now under way. For a full description of the work of the EBU/SMPTE Task Force, the reader is referred to the various reports and papers. This paper concentrates on describing the architecture of the proposed overall solution for Wrappers, by reference to some example applications, some issues of integration with existing standards, and extension of those standards in the future.

Oliver Morgan studied physics at Oxford University. He entered the TV industry in 1978, working primarily in software development for post-production editing. His previous positions include director of engineering at Convergence Corp. and manager of technology at the Sony Advanced Development Center in San Jose. Since 1977 he has been the senior consulting engineer at Avid Technology. Morgan has chaired the SMPTE Working Group on Editing Procedures as well as the EBU/SMPTE Task Force Subgroup on Wrappers and Metadata. He is a Fellow of SMPTE.
