Designing and Implementing a Hybrid Composite Digital/Analog Post-Production System

Abstract
While the rapid development of new technologies available for video and audio post-production seems to suggest that owners and operators should cast aside current equipment to obtain the latest and greatest, bottom-line issues dictate a more conservative approach for most facilities. A well-designed “hybrid” digital/analog post-production system enables users to benefit from new techniques available through digital recording technology while still making maximum use of existing plant equipment. This article describes the design, implementation, and use of one such system currently in use at Production Masters, Inc., in Pittsburgh, Pa.
