bio
Michael Luby is chief technology officer and co-founder of Digital Fountain, Inc. Luby is the inventor of LT codes, the unique breakthrough fountain code technology upon which the Digital Fountain products are based. Luby has made breakthrough research contributions in the areas of coding theory, randomized algorithm design and analysis, transport protocols and cryptography. He received the 2002 IEEE Information Theory Society Information Theory Paper Award for leading the design and analysis of the first irregular LDPC error-correcting codes, the 2003 SIAM Outstanding Paper Prize for seminal research in cryptography, and the 2007 IEEE Eric E. Sumner Communications Theory Award for outstanding contributions to communications technology. Luby earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. He has held the positions of associate professor in computer science at the University of Toronto, adjunct professor at UC Berkeley, and leader of the Theory Group at the International Computer Science Institute.Thomas Stockhammerbio
Thomas Stockhammer is a senior research consultant at Digital Fountain, Inc., responsible for standardization matters for CDPs, IPTV, and mobile multimedia communication. His research interests include video transmission, cross-layer and system design, forward error correction, content delivery protocols, rate-distortion optimization, information theory, and mobile communications. He has published more than 120 conference and journal papers and holds about 50 patents. He regularly participates and contributes to different standardization activities and has co-authored more than 200 technical contributions. Stockhammer chairs the video adhoc group of 3GPP SA4 as well as the DVB IPTV Content Download System Task Force and also acts as rapporteur/editor of several standardization documents. He is also co-founder and CEO of Novel Mobile Radio (NoMoR) Research, a company developing simulation and emulation of future mobile networks.Mark Watsonbio
Mark Watson is a director of research at Digital Fountain Inc., focusing on system architecture and design for Digital Fountain's innovative Internet video distribution technologies as well as other erasure coding applications such as mobile broadcast and IPTV and promotion of Digital Fountain codes within industry standards. Before joining Digital Fountain in 2004, he worked for Nortel Networks on product strategy and standardization in various areas including voice over IP, next generation networks, and 3G cellular networks, including significant contributions to the mobile broadcast multicast service (MBMS) standards in 3GPP. Watson received an M.Sc. in Mathematics from King's College, London and a B.A. (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. - Copyright
