The Current Status of Digital Intermediate

Howard Lukk is currently Director of Media Systems at Pixar Animation Studios. Before that, he was Vice President of Production Technology at The Walt Disney Studios, responsible for integrating new technology into feature film production and post-production. Lukk also worked as Director of Technology for DCI, where he researched and documented D-Cinema Specifications. He has also worked as a freelance engineer in the past, on HDTV productions such as Woodstock 25th Anniversary and Major League Baseball. Lukk is a SMPTE Fellow and has been an active member since 1995.

Jim Whittlesey is senior Vice President Technology and Operations for Deluxe Digital Cinema. He was one of the first employees of the Deluxe Digital Cinema Division and helped build the organization into a worldwide leader for D-Cinema service, which includes mastering, content delivery, and security key management. Whittlesey worked for the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) for three years and was responsible for editing the final version of the DCI Digital Cinema System Specification. While working at DCI, Whittlesey chaired the SMPTE AdHoc Digital Cinema Packaging group within DC28.20 Distribution Working Group. Whittlesey holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Portland State University. He is a member of SMPTE and participates in the D-Cinema groups.
