Abstract: Motion picture film and the characteristics of its support are discussed from the point of view of safety. A survey is given of the work carried out by the Eastman Kodak Company in conjunction with the motion picture industry, boards of underwriters, the National Fire Protection Association, and government bodies, on the control of the fire hazard in the production, distribution, and use of cellulose nitrate film for motion pictures. The characteristics and use of cellulose acetate film are considered in relation to the problem.
