Abstract: With the development of the MAZDA lamp for motion picture projection the limitation formerly imposed in source-condenser spacing due to heating and fouling was obviated. Attempts were at once made to design condenser lenses of shorter focal length and capable of intercepting a larger percentage of the light from the source. A successful solution was the prismatic condenser, a special form of Fresnel lens, which includes a relatively large angle without excessive aberration.
