Abstract: Many of the conventional projection lenses used for small film projectors are of the Petzval or Voigtländer type shown in Fig. 1. As the Petzval radius of these types is of the order of the focal length, they show considerable field curvature when astigmatism is corrected, or astigmatism when mean field flattening is achieved.
