Abstract: Lenses intended for use on vidicon-type TV cameras must have wide relative aperture and uniformity of illumination throughout the picture area and must yield the type of performance demanded by TV transmission channels. The picture format is larger than that utilized in 16mm film cameras and the aberrational effects of the tube end glass thickness are perceptible. The paper discusses the suitability of standard cinematographic lenses under these conditions of use and describes a new range of lenses designed specifically for this purpose.
