Abstract: The functions of the three components of the soundtrack—voice, music, sound effects—are delineated in Part I. In Part II the editing of the components is considered in detail. Preparation of the work print and sound tracks for re-recording is described in Part III. The re-recording (mix) is discussed in Part IV. Parts II, III and IV will appear in subsequent, though not necessarily consecutive, issues of the Journal. Publication of this paper as a booklet will be completed soon.
