Abstract: The strides being made toward realizing the dream of international television are discussed. The suitability of troposcatter for achieving this goal is the central theme, with reference to feasible path lengths and reliability. Recent developments toward obtaining satisfactory performance are presented, including such factors as diversity, single-sideband, variable powers and bandwidths, and masers. Current troposcatter installation techniques are illustrated.
