Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for butt-welding and butt-splicing of polyester film base and standard triacetate film base have been developed on the principle of a combination of a controlled heat and cooling gradient applied under pressure within a given time cycle. Butt-welded similar types of bases and a method of butt-splicing by the use of an additional high-temperature transparent adhesive sliver are described, and also the combination of both methods used simultaneously
