Color Kinescope Recording on Embossed Film

Abstract: In the past, a special form of black-and-white film, with tiny cylindrical lenses embossed in its base, has been employed in conjunction with a banded color filter for additive color photography. Such film is readily adaptable to color kinescope recording, and in this application the banded filter is not required. Color aspects of the problem can be left to the television system. The advantages of color kinescope recording on embossed film include economy, faithful color reproduction, high efficiency and rapid film processing. The latter is particularly important in meeting the demands of time-zone-delayed broadcasting, or “quick kine.” Prints for subsequent distribution can be made on ordinary subtractive color films.
