Abstract: This paper explains how the changeover from black-and-white to color affected studio lighting at WBAP-TV. The number of watts per square foot for studio floor space was increased from 18.5 to approximately 60. The air-conditioning capacity was almost doubled. A light level of 400 ft-c was found to be practical. Recognizing that methods of operation vary from studio to studio, the author is not suggesting that methods found satisfactory at WBAP-TV could be applied with equal success to all studios, but some helpful ideas may be gained from a review of the experience of one studio.
