Abstract: The author's task in preparing a full technical paper for publication and a shortened version for oral presentation is outlined in step-by-step detail. The form is that of an actual technical paper. Although the procedures outlined are those used specifically by the SMPTE, some of the suggestions offered will apply in general to all technical articles intended for publication or oral presentation.
