The Need for Performance Specifications for Overhead Projectors

Abstract: The requirements of specific teaching-learning situations must take into account the capabilities of existing machines. The most purchased machine in education today is the overhead projector, which can be used in many settings. One of its most important characteristics, screen brightness, may be described variously in terms of lamp watts, lamp type, condensing system, photo white, lumens or percentage brighter. A set of overhead projector characteristics that are important to educators for selecting machines for specific educational settings is now being prepared, taking into account the varied needs of education and the characteristics of the machines. Information needed for each machine is identification, safety considerations, electrical, optical, sound and temperature characteristics, convenience, optional accessories, size and portability.
