Abstract: A low-cost helical-scan color videotape recorder for the broadcaster has many of the features previously found only on quadruples recorders, and provides some features never before found on a videotape recorder. Until recently, most helicalscan videotape recorders introduced time-base errors too large to meet the EIA and FCC broadcast specifications and did not have a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio for the discriminating broadcaster, and until recently, electronic editing, color reproduction, missing video information and other similar problems remained unsolved. This helical-scan VTR can record the full NTSC color signal in its original form with a 4.2-MHz bandwidth and excellent signal-to-noise ratio.
