Abstract: Present-day automation systems frequently use a minicomputer in an on-line mode as the primary controller. The computer system consists of three major parts: the actual computer, the software instructing it how to perform its tasks, and the peripherals that connect it to the “outside world.” The reliability of each part in a computer-controlled television switching system and the options available to assure acceptable performance under various conditions of failure are discussed.
