Abstract: In 1916, according to the Constitution and Bylaws of the SMPTE, there were four membership grades of which the most important were Pioneer Members, defined as those who were “in the art as principals 15 years or more antedating the time of the organization of the Society,” and Honorary Members who were required to have been active in the industry for more than 10 years.
