Abstract: BECAUSE something new has happened to the motion picture industry, this gathering is full of new faces. So, in behalf of the new talking motion picture engineers, it is proper to explain and define at the outset just what this film business is. To be exact, it, consists simply in selling to a motion picture exhibitor his own state of anticipation about what he thinks an audience will think about some shadows which we will rent to him for a few hours on some future date. That is, I submit, highly intangible merchandise.
