- Abstract
- This paper is an analysis of the essential factors governing the most desirable dynamic frequency response of an RCA variable-area sound recording channel, and includes a study of the most suitable location of the various equalizers employed in the system. It consists of five parts: Derivation of equalization characteristic for the RCA sound-on-film recording channel; Review of effort equalization and of relative spectral energy distortion in electronic compressors; Recommended recording channel equalization; Experimental work; Conclusions. By dividing the paper into these interrelated parts, the different phases of the subject can be studied more conveniently than if no such subdivisions were made. Also, the fifth part contains the results and recommendations reached in the first four parts.
