Abstract: Long the leaders in prompt utilization of advanced resources of the lighting art, motion picture theaters yielded this place as a result of wartime restrictions and early postwar conditions. Many now find themselves in marked need of rehabilitation in this respect. Some of the newer forms of light sources produced during the war and since, offer ways to expand the techniques of lighting. New materials and old ones in new forms are becoming available for modernizing the theater. Combinations of these sources and materials increase the scope of lighting treatments available to serve the special purposes of the motion picture exhibitor. In this paper, the authors present some of the new types of lighting elements and suggest applications to marquee, lobby, foyer, standee space, and public rooms.
