- Abstract
- Currently available subtractive color-photography processes provide pleasing pictures of most natural objects. However, when an original color photograph is the subject, as in the cases of duplicating and copying, the resulting reproduction is usually not satisfactory when compared with the original. Differences between the original and the reproduction are primarily due to the high photographic contrast and the optical characteristics of the dyes in the original. Masking to improve the quality of color reproductions involves making an auxiliary image, generally by a photographic method, and registering it with the original color transparency. Reproductions axe made from the combined transparency and mask.
