- Abstract
- Centralcasting is steadily gaining momentum among television station groups that see it as a practical, cost-saving operating philosophy; however, an often-overlooked risk exists that is so significant that its costs may far outweigh any savings realized from the reduction of staff and consolidation of capital equipment. This risk lies in a lack of redundancy and, hence, reliability of the router in a typical central-casting model. This paper discusses the potential risk and suggests a solution that, although appearing contrary to the very notion of centralization, is ideally suited for centralized operations and provides true risk mitigation in signal distribution between central and remote sites.
