Abstract: The following discussion and interpretation of recent changes in the attitude of the courts and the Federal Trade Commission toward standardization was presented before the first meeting of the Conference Committee of Staff Executives of Member Bodies and Associate Members of the American Standards Association on March 7, 1946. The author is a recognized authority on the legal aspect of industrial standardization, and the editors of the Journal feel that this frank discussion will be of particular interest to members of the Society who are manufacturers, or who have participated in the 30 years of standardization history of the SMPE.
