A Review of the Year in Technology for Stereoscopic Cinema and Television

Lenny Lipton was the founder of StereoGraphics Corporation in 1980 and was the CTO of Real D for four years. He is the president of Oculus3D, a company specializing in stereoscopic projection technology. He's been granted 44 patents with about 50 more pending. In 1996, he received a Smithsonian award for this invention of CrystalEyes ® , the first shuttering eyewear product for stereoscopic displays. He invented the ZScreen ® and flicker-free field-sequential 3D display technology, the basis of the electronic stereoscopic cinema. He invented the side-by- side digital multiplexing technique, which is used for television and motion picture broadcasting. He has written four books, including Independent Filmmaking (1972), for 20 years the standard text on the subject, and Foundations of the Stereoscopic Cinema (1982). Lipton is a SMPTE Fellow.
