Abstract: One of the first problems which faced this committee was that of a common language which could be understood and accepted by all participants in television nomenclature. After considerable discussion, an initial listing of ten items was compiled and circulated to over four hundred interested parties. The resulting replies from approximately 20% of those approached, indicated overwhelming approval (90%) with some minor changes which were later included. The final versions of the lighting definitions have since been listed in the February 1955 Journal. This effort is a beginning and encouraging enough to warrant the continuance of this phase of the lighting committee's activity. Suggestions for additional terminology are not only welcome but are actively solicited.
