Abstract: The Recent Intense interest in the possible improvement of small-format films, originally designed for home movie use, in ways that would increase applicability to educational and industrial situations has led to many suggestions for changes of format from that which is embodied in today's 8mm standards. Since these many suggestions include mutually incompatible alternatives, importance is attached to the establishment of a selection process by which good technical and business decisions can be reached. One pressure has developed for the Society to change the organization of its Standards work in ways which, hopefully, would speed up the process of adoption of Standards. The implication is that the selections made by a revised organization would bring order rapidly out of today's plethora of ideas in spite of a paucity of adequately established performance data and prototype equipment units.
