Abstract: Mercury arc rectifiers are now widely used in the industry for converting a-c to d-c power. Since d-c power is required for operation of arc lights in motion picture studios, it is of interest to analyze whether the use of rectifiers for this purpose has advantages over other power conversion means. This paper points out the relative merits of rectifiers and motor generators.
