Abstract: Due to the increased use of high-sensitivity motion picture negative film and the widespread adoption of daylight lamps as a light source, a new daylight type motion picture color negative film, REALA 500D, has been developed utilizing “fourth color layer technology.” This film is expected to further expand the choice of locations for film shooting.

Katsumi Makino is a senior research associate at Ashigara Research Laboratories. He graduated from Tokyo University in 1979 with an M.S. degree. Makino started his career at Ashigara Research Laboratory as a photographic emulsion researcher. Currently, he is responsible for the development of new color-negative films for motion picture and professional use.

Hikaru Murakami is a research scientist at Ashigara Research Laboratories. He graduated from Yokohama National University in 1992, with an M.S. degree. He began his career in the design and development of color reversal film at Ashigara Research Laboratory. He has worked in motion picture film for the last four years and has specialized in the design of new color-negative film.

Sadayuki Sam Yamaryo is manager of the Motion Picture Film Technical Div. of Ashigara Research Laboratory, where he develops and designs motion picture films. He graduated from Saitama National University in 1971. From 1987 to 1996, he was technical representative for the European market of Fuji Motion Picture Films in Germany.
